Dear Madhavan,
While it is extremely pleasing to see an IIT Engineering Grad taking farming and (seriously) at that, it is sad that you have to go as far as Israel for guidance.Have you tried listening to what your land/nature is telling you.? From the looks of it you don't even know what i am talking about.
I was lucky to have met Subhash Palekar in 2001.My farm which initially recorded 1300 -1400 kgs of paddy per acre later died down to 600 kgs due to the use of modern farming techniques (drip irrigation, use of urea, and other complex fertilizers). The only solution these so called well read "scientists" offered me was use of more and more expensive fertilizers and chemicals which killed my land. And just for the record i stopped farming in 1999-2001 for fear of loosing everything.(BTW there were also a lot of famed personalities that visited my farm when things were going well.)
While running around for help i chance fully met god! in Subhash Palekar who not only thought me how to listen to nature but also bought a lot of love for farming and not money in farming. To cut a long story short the rest is history.I have produced 1800 kgs per acre last year and this year it is likely to touch 2000+ and unlike in previous times my input cost is close to nil per acre, labor apart.
Subhash Palekar sir's method is the only way forward. And this method is not new it was discovered by Fukuoka Sensei but been going around hushed up by money loving politicians and MNC's.Maybe i was lucky to have run into Subhash sir, and i think it is my duty to spread his farming methods.Try to visit him and oh in case i forgot he charges zero rupees i mean ZERO for helping a fellow farmer.
Hope i have at least helped you in a minor way and have opened your eyes to Farming and not money.
Regards,
and lots of love and wishes
